1 dead after Franklin County crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Benton man died in a crash Sunday evening in Franklin County.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a traffic crash on the Rend Lake Dam Road around 7:06 p.m. on Sunday, June 11.

Deputies found a single vehicle crash on the east end of the Rend Lake Dam Road.

A 2018 GMC truck was traveling east on Rend Lake Dam Road.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the truck left the north side of the roadway and struck the concrete base of a light pole, according to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon.

Ian D. Fee, 40, of Benton was the driver of the vehicle and only occupant. Fee was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

AMR EMS, Sesser Fire Protection District, Benton Fire Dept., U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
