Cape Girardeau man killed in crash on I-55 in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the identity of the person killed in a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 55 in Scott County Tuesday morning.

Lauren D. Reece, 61, of Cape Girardeau was killed in the crash that happened at 4:43 a.m.

It happened in the southbound lanes at the 75.8 mile marker between a commercial motor vehicle and another vehicle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Reece was driving a 2014 Honda CRV that was disabled in the road. A 2020 International tractor driven by Jerome Rivers, 58, of Summersville, Tenn. hit the rear of Reece’s vehicle, according to MSHP. That sent Reece’s vehicle into the cable barrier.

Reece was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County Coroner David Scott Branam.

All lanes of Interstate 55 are back open. Southbound I-55 was blocked while emergency crews responded to the scene. Traffic was diverted onto US 61 at Benton while crews reponded.
