1 injured, 1 arrested after shooting in Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man faces an assault and wanton endangerment charges after a preson was injured in a shooting in Paducah.
Tayjaun A. Kelly, 23, of River Oaks Boulevard faces a first-degree assault charge and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Paducah Police responded to a large outdoor gathering in the 900 block of Boyd Street at 2:45 a.m. on August 11 for a report of a single gunshot.
While moving through the crowd, officers heard additional gunshots in the immediate vicinity. Officers ran toward the sound of the gunshots to find the shooter and anyone injured by the shooting.
While investigating the gunshots, they learned a person had been taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds.
Detectives responded and began investigating. They identified the shooter as Tayjaun Kelly and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
They say Kelly was near a large crowd of people when he began shooting, striking one person.
Detectives found Kelly on Monday evening at a home in the 800 block of River Oaks Boulevard and arrested him.
“I am incredibly proud of our officers who quickly gained control of a chaotic scene. Their courage exemplifies the very best of law enforcement. I also want to commend our detectives for quickly identifying and arresting the shooter. Our officer’s commitment to the safety of our community is deeply appreciated,” said Paducah Police Chief Brian Laird.
Kelly was taken to the McCracken County Jail.
