1 injured, 1 arrested after stabbing in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man was arrested Friday evening on charges relating to a stabbing that left one injured.

Phillipe J. Mignon, 21, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery in a public place.

Police say the attack was not random, but that Mignon targeted the victim over a personal dispute.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 block of South Poplar Street in reference to a stabbing at 12:43 p.m. on Friday, July 14.

Officers provided emergency medical aid to the victim until the Jackson County Ambulance Service arrived and took the victim to the hospital. The injury is not considered life-threatening, according to the Carbondale Police Department.

The victim was treated for injuries at the hospital where he/she remains in stable condition.

Officers learned that the victim arranged to meet the suspect, whom they did not know, for a transaction through a social media app. During the transaction, the suspect battered and stabbed the victim, according to police.

Mignon was arrested around 7 p.m. Friday and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The Carbondale Police Department encourages anyone arranging a transaction with someone they do not know to do so in a public place or a designated safe location such as the Carbondale Police Department.
