1 injured after police say man hit victim with gun

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man faces charges after police responded to an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon complaint.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 100 block of North Washington Street at 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26 in reference to a report of an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon complaint.

Officers learned the victim and suspect were socializing in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street when the suspect showed what appeared to be a firearm, according to the Carbondale Police Department. Police say suspect used the weapon to hit the victim multiple times. The victim ran away and called the police. The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Officers found and arrested Tyler W. Edwards, 22, of Carbondale, for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, as well as an arrest warrant from Williamson County for criminal trespass to residence while persons were present. Additional charges may be pending.
