1 injured in 2-vehicle crash in rural Ava

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in rural Ava.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 151 at the intersection of Sharp Rock Road in rural Ava on Sunday, May 3 around 9:48 p.m.

A grey 2003 Subaru passenger car driver by Elizabeth Koczwara, 38, of Ava was traveling southbound on Hwy. 151 preparing to turn left onto Sharp Rock Road.

At the same time, a white 2006 Chevrolet multi-passenger van driven by Angela Kirkpatrick, 54, of Vergennes, Ill. was traveling northbound on Hwy. 151.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Captain Carson K. Bunton says Koczwara’s vehicle turned left in front of Kirkpatrick’s vehicle and the crashed.

Both vehicles had significant damage and were towed from the scene.

Koczwara was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passengers of the other vehicle were not injured.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Ave Fire Department, Campbell Hill Fire Department and the Jackson County Ambulance Service.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
