1 of 2 juveniles surrenders to police after 3 injured in Carbondale shooting

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – One of two juveniles who police are looking for in connection with a shooting in Carbondale turned him/herself in to police on Sunday.

Three people were injured by gunfire on May 9 in Carbondale.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 block of South Rawlings Street after they received several calls about a fight and a shooting on May 9 around 6:27 p.m.

Police say the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between known acquaintances. Detectives from the Carbondale Police Department identified two suspects who are juveniles from Carbondale.

A third gunshot victim later arrived at the hospital on his/her own. Officers believe this victim is part of the same incident.

Police say two of the three victims are teenagers.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for two juveniles who were identified as suspected shooters.

On May 19, one of the juvenile suspects surrendered on the warrant.

The juvenile was jailed in a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance.

Detectives are still seeking the second juvenile. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the police department at 618-457-3200.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

The names of the juvenile suspects are not being released due to legal prohibitions involving juvenile suspects.
