1 with minor injuries after helicopter lands in field near Woodlawn

WOODLAWN, Ill. (KBSI) – One person has minor injuries after a helicopter landed in a field in Woodlawn Tuesday morning.

The Woodlawn Fire Department and Jefferson Fire Protection District received a report of a crop duster that had crashed at 8:38 a.m.

Jefferson County dispatch auto launched Air Evac. While units from both agencies were responding dispatch, information was updated that it was a helicopter that had crashed and was in a field.

First responders arrived in the area and found a helicopter upright in a standing corn field.

The pilot and sole person in the helicopter had made his way from the crash site and was along the road. He had minor injuries, according to the Woodlawn Fire Protection District.

Air Evac was canceled and the pilot was checked on by fire department personnel and Litton Ambulance personnel on scene.

People from the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport arrived to assist with further notifications of the appropriate authorities.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on scene.
