12 McCracken County High School Juniors selected for Governor’s Scholars Program

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — Twelve McCracken County High School juniors have been recognized by the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program, with 11 selected to attend the program and one named as an alternate.

The students selected to attend are Jack Adreon, Conner Campbell, Mikell Fischer, Reagan Hill, Alexandra Leslie, Colin McCurren, Landon Nichols, Clara Pierce, Brooklin Preston, Jack Thompson and Jaiden Walker. Ella DeHart was selected as an alternate.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a highly selective, five-week residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky high school students. The program provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in academic and personal development on a Kentucky college campus.

This year’s program will be held at Centre College, Morehead State University and Murray State University. Students attend the program at no cost.

The application process is rigorous, requiring academic excellence, community involvement, teacher and community recommendations, and an original writing entry. Over 2,000 students apply statewide each year, with approximately 1,000 selected to participate.

“We are incredibly proud of these students and all they’ve accomplished,” said McCracken County High School Principal Jonathan Smith. “Their selection reflects not only their individual talents and hard work but also the strong support from our teachers, families and school community.”

McCracken County Public Schools congratulates these outstanding students and celebrates their dedication, achievement and commitment to excellence.
