12-year-old boy riding bike dies after hit by pickup truck in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A boy riding a bicycle died after he was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday west of Sesser on Highway 154.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a crash on Hwy. 154 west.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a traffic crash on State Highway 154 west of Sesser at 2:13 p.m. on May 30.
The caller reported that the crash involved a pickup truck and bicycle. Deputies responded and found the crash at the intersection of State Highway 154 and Circle M Road.
The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
A 12-year-old boy was riding the bike. The child was severely injured and flown from the scene for medical treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.
A short time later, the child diea at a regional hospital.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that the pickup truck was traveling eastbound on State Highway 154 approaching the intersection of Circle M Road. The bicycle was southbound on Circle M Road approaching the intersection of State Highway 154.
A witness to the crash and the driver of the pickup truck indicated that the bicycle proceeded into the intersection without stopping and was hit by the eastbound pickup truck, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash.
The Sesser Police Dept, Sesser Fire Protection District, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, Abbott Ambulance, AirEvac, and numerous passerby citizens also assisted at the scene.
