13th For Kids’ Sake Superhero 5K set for Saturday in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Superheroes will take over Turley Park in Carbondale on Saturday, Sept. 20, for the 13th For Kids’ Sake International Superhero 5K Run/Walk.

The event, which raises funds for life-saving services for children in southern Illinois, Bangladesh and The Gambia, begins at 8 a.m. with same-day registration. The race starts at 9 a.m., kicked off by Carbondale City Manager Stan Reno. The Carbondale Fire Department will also be on hand with a fire truck to represent local heroes.

Participants can expect a live DJ, local vendors, post-race refreshments and free massages. Awards will be given for top fundraisers, fastest times and best superhero costumes. Prizes include gift cards, backpacks, race medals and more.

Virtual participants may complete the 5K anywhere and upload their results online. Organizers said partners in Bangladesh, The Gambia and Germany will also join virtually.
