16 year old facing assault, other charges in Calloway County

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A 16-year-old by faces assault and other charges after he is accused of trying to stab a juvenile group home worker with a knife.
The teen faces charges of assault 1st degree-attempt (Class C felony), two counts of assault 3rd degree-police officer (Class D felony), fleeing police 2nd degree-on foot, resisting arrest and criminal mischief 3rd degree.
Calloway County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the juvenile group home in the east part of the county around 3 p.m. on August 14 after receiving a report of an out of control 16-year-old male who attempted to stab a worker with a knife.
The knife was retrieved by staff before deputies arrived.
As deputies arrived, they say the juvenile assaulted one of the them and ran away into a corn field adjacent to the home.
Aurhorities established a perimeter. Calloway County Fire Rescue responded with a drone. The Calloway County E911 put out a Hyper Reach mass notification for the residents in the area to be aware of the situation so they could keep themselves safe while the suspect was at large.
After about two hours, the perimeter was broadened to try to get him to come out of the field. Around 7:30 p.m. it was reported that the juvenile returned to the home and again ran away on foot as deputies arrived.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office assisted with two K-9’s that flushed him from the field where he was then detained after a brief struggle where deputies say another deputy was assaulted.
The juvenile was taken to the hospital. He was medically cleared with minor injuries.
He was taken to the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center.
The two deputies who were injured did not require medical treatment.
