16-year-old killed, three injured in Mississippi County crash

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A 16-year-old boy was killed, and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday near East Prairie.
The crash happened around 12:25 a.m. Aug. 30 on Missouri Route 80, about a half mile west of East Prairie, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
MSHP said the 16-year-old Sikeston boy was driving a 2024 Kia K5 northbound when he failed to yield to an eastbound 2016 Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep struck the Kia.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker. MSHP said he was not wearing a seat belt.
Three passengers in the Jeep were injured.
An 18-year-old man from East Prairie suffered serious injuries and was flown to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. An 18-year-old woman from Charleston suffered moderate injuries, and a 23-year-old man from Sikeston suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
The 19-year-old East Prairie woman driving the Jeep was not reported injured.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit assisted with the investigation.
The death marks Troop E’s 38th traffic fatality of 2026.
