1800 people were without power in Fredericktown as crews work endlessly to restore service

FRDERICKTOWN(KBSI) – The Fredericktown city electric system saw a peak outage of approximately 1,800 customers.
The Fredericktown Fire Department says power restoration continues for City of Fredericktown Customers as crews continue to work.
Crews were successful in restoring all but 340 customers as of 11:30 am Monday January 6.
According to the Fredericktown Fire Department mutual aid power crews arrived this morning to begin assisting in restoration efforts.
They ask citizens to continue to be mindful of proper generator use especially in preventing any back feeding from a generator to the city power grid.
Madison County Health Department is being used as a warming center by the Madison County EMA.
The shelter is open at this time but has no food or medical services available.
Fredericktown Fire continues to ask that everyone be aware of any low hanging or downed powerlines and to stay clear of lines as they will likely be energized.
Low hanging limbs can also be in contact with power lines.
If your homes electric service mast was damaged due to the storm it is recommended that you turn off your main breaker in case wiring is damaged inside your electric panel.
The department urges citizens to continue to use safe heating measures and be aware of the risks of carbon monoxide.
