SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A 19-year-old Sikeston man has been arrested after officers responding to a gunshot detection alert recovered a stolen handgun, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Officers were dispatched early Tuesday, Sept. 23, to the area of Alabama Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. While en route, they spotted a man walking away from the area. The individual, identified as Terrieon Jones, was found with a Glock 43X concealed in his waistband, police said.
A records check showed the firearm had been reported stolen in Cape Girardeau County.
Jones was arrested and charged in Scott County Court with stealing, a Class D felony, and resisting or interfering with arrest, a Class E felony.
“Gunshot detection has been instrumental in helping our officers keep Sikeston safe,” Capt. Jon Broom said in a statement. “In this case, it directly led to the recovery of a stolen firearm, an essential step in protecting our neighborhoods.”
Jones remains in custody pending arraignment. The investigation is ongoing.
