2 arrested after boat theft in McCracken County

WEST PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – Two men face charges after sheriff’s deputies investigated a report of a boat theft.

Joshua Ottis Hedgepath, 43, of Paducah faces charges of theft by unlawful taking $1,000 – $10,000 (Class D felony) and trespassing 3rd degree (violation).

Samuel Perkins, 33, of Princeton faces a charge of giving officer false identifying information (Class B misdemeanor).

McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in West Paducah around 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25 after receiving a report of a theft of a boat and its associated trailer.

Deputies say the theft took place on August 24 around 12:55 p.m. but was not discovered by the victim until the following day.

The victim, from West Paducah, provided security camera footage of the theft. Sheriff’s deputies the security camera footage proved to be instrumental in the investigation and led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Several deputies worked on the investigation throughout the day on Sunday, August 25 until one deputy saw the suspect vehicle, still hauling the stolen boat, driving in the downtown area of Paducah.

Deputies saturated the downtown area. The conducted surveillance, confronted and arrested the suspect.

A second man was also arrested, but his involvement in the theft is still under investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff’s deputies say additional charges may be forthcoming.
