2 arrested after burglary alarm goes off in Orient

ORIENT, Ill. (KBSI) – Two men face burglary and other charges after a commercial burglary alarm went off in Orient.

Hunter D. Karns-Glen,20, of West Frankfort faces charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft, and criminal damage to property over $10,000.

Bryan K. Edwards, 43, of Mulkeytown faces charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft, criminal damage to property over $10,000 and resisting arrest. Edwards was also wanted on two outstanding Franklin County Warrants for residential burglary.

On Friday, January 26 at 4:58 a.m. the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a commercial burglary alarm from a business in Orient.

Deputies responded and found the facility had been burglarized.

Detectives and additional sheriff’s deputies responded and began collecting information to develop suspects.

Around 6:30 a.m. sheriff’s deputies made contact with numerous people at a home in Orient.

Karns-Glen was found at the home and arrested.

Additional information was obtained that a second suspect in the burglary, Edwards, may have been hiding in the same home.

Deputies saw someone run from the rear of the home into a thickly wooded area. They ordered the person to stop but he continued, according to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon.

Deputies chased the Edwards for several hundred yards before losing sight. While remaining in the area and continuing to search outbuildings, a deputy found Edwards in a garage concealed inside a chest style deep freeze, according to Sheriff Bacon.

After a confrontation, Edwards was arrested.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home where the suspects were found.

Numerous items of great evidentiary value were located and collected, according to Sheriff Bacon.

Karns-Glen and Edwards were taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Sheriff’s Office dispatchers, patrol deputies and detectives worked the case. The West Frankfort Police Department and an Illinois State Police Crime Scene investigator also assisted.
