2 arrested after investigation into money stolen at recycling center in Miner

MINER, Mo. (KBSI) – Two people face charges after the Miner Police Department received a report of employee theft from a recycling center.

An East Prairie woman faces stealing and forgery charges in Miner after police say she stole from a recycling center.

Leslie E. Moreland, of East Prairie faces charges of stealing (Class D felony) and forgery (Class D felony).

The name of the other suspect is withheld pending filing of formal charges.

The Miner Police Department received a report of employee theft from Dale’s Recycling on Wednesday, August 30 at 1:51 p.m.

The business reported a recently terminated employee stole $11,127.79 since May 2023.

The business reported a suspected employee had alleedly been creating false scrap metal purchase tickets and issuing forged checks in the name of another suspect.

Two search warrants were obtained for two addresses in East Praire for two suspects of the theft.

Police officers from the Miner East Prairie police departments and several members of the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office executed both search warrants on Friday, September 1 around 8:40 a.m.

Both suspects were found at the addresses and arrested.

Police police say a glass pipe with white residue which officer believe may have been drug paraphernalia for methamphetamines was found at one of the locations.

Moreland was taken to the Scott County Jail to be held on the felony warrant with a $5,000 cash only bond.
