2 arrested in Johnston City after deputies serve felony arrest warrant

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (KBSI) – Two people face charges after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home after getting a tip that a man wanted on a felony warrant was at a home.

Caleb R. Grant faces charges of resisting/obstructing a peace officer and the original felony arrest warrant for burglary.

Kierston C. Tolbert faces charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1700 block of Follis Avenue in Johnston City at 12:54 a.m. on Saturday, August 17.

Deputies, acting on information that Caleb R. Grant, a subject wanted on a felony arrest warrant for burglary, was at the home.

Grant is known by deputies to have an extensive history of resisting and fleeing from law enforcement.

As deputies walked past a window of the home, they say they saw Grant standing in the living room.

Additional deputies responded and set up a perimeter around the home.

While waiting for additional deputies, woman known by deputies from previous law enforcement contact as Kierston C. Tolbert left the home from the front door.

Deputies advised Tolbert that they had seen Grant in the home, had an active arrest warrant for him and to tell him to exit now.

Sheriff’s deputies say Tolbert responded with expletives and retreated into the home.

Additional deputies arrived on scene.

Tolbert once again left the front of the home.

As deputies tried to arrest Grant, they say Tolbert obstructed their pursuit of him and became physical with deputies.

Tolbert was arrested.

Deputies made contact with a male in the residence who told them Grant was in the bedroom.

Grant was found hiding in a closet. Deputies say he their efforts to take him into custody. After a brief struggle, Grant was arrested and handcuffed.

Grant and Tolbert were taken to the Williamson County Jail.
