2 arrested, stabbing victim identified in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – Police arrested two people and identified the victim after a stabbing Sunday night in Cape Girardeau.
The victim has been identified as Casimiro Hernandez-Ruiz, 40, of Jackson. Police determined Hernandez-Ruiz was stabbed multiple times in the chest.
Marcos Lopez, 23, and Ariel Escobar-Soler, 25, both of Cape Girardeau were arrested.
Around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 25 officers conducted a search warrant in the 1000 block of N. Middle where both suspects were found and arrested along with evidence.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office formally charged Marcos Lopez with Class E felony of tampering with physical evidence. Lopez is being held on a no-bond warrant.
Ariel Escobar-Soler was formally charged with Class A felony murder in the second degree and felony armed criminal action. Escobar-Soler is currently being held on a no-bond warrant.
Investigators say they are confident that all suspects connected to this homicide are currently in custody and no further arrests are anticipated.
Some residents and business owners express concern after a stabbing left one man dead on February 25 in Cape Girardeau.
At about 3:10 a.m., the Cape Girardeau Police Department received a report of a victim who had been stabbed in the 1200 block of North Water Street. Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim dead.
Annie, who is a shop owner within the downtown business district, is disheartened to hear about the fatal stabbing that took place a few miles up the road from her shop. She feels that there could have been a better way to handle the incident, instead of resorting to violence.
“Just show love. Show love, show caring, be a listener. If someone has a problem, listen to them,” said Annie.
