2 face burglary, theft, other charges after attempted theft of utility trailer

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Two man face burglary, theft and other charges after an attempted theft of a utility trailer in Graves County.

An attempted theft of a utility trailer was reported to sheriff’s deputies by a property owner on McCracken County Road in northern Graves County on Saturday, June 10 around 1 p.m.

The victim told authorities that as he pulled onto some property that he owned, two suspects driving a black Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a white man with a black male passenger had hooked up to his 16 foot utility trailer and was trying to leave.

The victim confronted the two men and started taking pictures of them with his cellphone.

One of the men got out of the vehicle and unhooked the trailer, according to the sheriff’s office. The two men then sped off.

The next day on Sunday, June 11, a call was received from another property owner on McCracken County Road in close proximity to call the previous day. This victim reported he discovered his single wide mobile home had been burglarized and forced entry was used to gain entrance.

Numerous items including propane water heater, a window air conditioner, copper wire, a bench grinder, electronics, and other related items were stolen.

Deputies believed the two incidents were related and determined that the burglary had occurred before the attempted trailer theft.

The investigation led sheriffs’ deputies Monday evening to two home both located on Lawn Drive which is located off US Hwy. 45 just north of Mayfield.

Surveillance was conducted. Two suspects were arrested and the property stolen from the McCracken County Road home was recovered, according to the sheriff’s office.

85 Lawn drive was searched and 43 Lawn Drive were searched as well. Authorities also seized crystal methamphetamine during the search of #43 Lawn Drive.

Two suspects were arrested, both involved in the attempted felony theft of the 16 fott trailer and the burglary of the mobile home, both on McCracken County Road.

Brian Dunbar, 46, of 43 Lawn Drive in Mayfield faces charges of burglary 2nd degree, attempted felony theft of utility trailer, criminal trespass 3rd degree, possession of a 1st degree controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Dunbar has a previous felony burglary conviction.

Charles Leon Wilcox, 66, of 85 Lawn Drive in Mayfield faces charges burglary 2nd degree, theft by unlawful taking over $1,000, receiving stolen property over $500, attempted felony theft of utility trailer, criminal trespass 3rd degree.

Wilcox is out on bond in Graves County awaiting to be sentenced on a felony receiving stolen property charge. He has previous felony convictions for receiving stolen property, theft, and burglary, among others, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.  Wilcox also has been previously convicted for stealing wheels and tires belonging to the Graves County Fiscal Court and is on probation for that offense.

The black Chevrolet Trailblazer that was used in the thefts was found hidden behind one of the home with the license plate removed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both suspects were taken to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and later to out of county detention facilities.
