2 face drug charges after K9 alerts to drugs during traffic stop

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Two people face drugs charges after a K9 alerted a sheriff’s deputy to drugs during a traffic stop.

A McCracken County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Donnie Churchwell. It was discovered Churchwell was operating on an expired license.

While conducting the traffic stop, K9 Bobi alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The passenger was identified as 57-year-old Diane Sanford.

Donnie Churchwell faces charges of possession of controlled substance 1st degree – methamphetamine, operating vehicle on expired operators license, failure of owner to maintain required insurance and buy/possess drug paraphernalia.

Diane Sanford faces charges of possession of controlled substance 1st degree – methamphetamine and illegal possession of legend drug.

Churchwell and Sanford were placed under arrest and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
