2 face drug charges after traffic stop in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Two people face drug charges after a traffic stop in Williamson County

Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies say they saw a vehicle commit violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code while driving near the intersection of Deyoung and Court Street in Marion around 2:38 a.m. on August 8.

Deputes conducted a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Scott L. Essary.

While completing the traffic stop, a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit arrived on scene and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle. K9 “Shadow” indicated a positive alert to the odor of narcotics.

Deputies approached the vehicle and asked the people in the vehicle to exit.

While exiting, deputies saw they saw a female, later identified as Morgan B. Tarr, conceal an unknown item in her jacket pocket.

Deputies say a probable cause search of Tarr found a clear plastic bag containing 1.4 grams of methamphetamine.

They say Essary told deputies there was “meth” inside the center console of the vehicle.

A probable cause search of the vehicle found drug paraphernalia containing residue which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Scott L. Essary faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no registration light.

Morgan B. Tarr faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Essary and Tarr were taken to the Williamson County Jail.
