Police release name of suspect after 1 killed, another injured in Cape Girardeau shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Police have released the name of the man arrested after a shooting in Cape Girardeau that left one dead and another injured.

Hezekiah L. Cain, 29, of Cape Girardeau was formally charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm (Class D felonies) and two counts of tampering with physical evidence (Class E felonies).

Cape Girardeau police officers responded to the 400 block of S. Spring around 7:09 p.m. after receiving calls of shots fired on May 23.

On Monday, May 23, 2022 about 7:09 p.m., officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to 400-block of S. Spring in reference to a shots fired call. Officers located two injured victims. Both victims were transported to area hospitals.

One person died, according to Cape Girardeau County Deputy Coroner Craig Williams. An autopsy is scheduled later this week. The name of the victim has not been released.

Cain is being held at the Cape Girardeau Police Department on a $100,000 cash only bond.
