2 killed; 10 injured, leaving some in critical condition; storms ravage Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A destructive storm system tore through Scott County on Friday, causing widespread damage and loss of life.

According to officials, two people were killed and approximately 10 others were injured, with some in critical condition.

Emergency responders and public works crews were still actively responding to the incident Friday evening, working to clear debris and hazardous elements such as downed power lines.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office urged residents to exercise caution when traveling in the area and to avoid hazardous zones.

For those displaced by the storm, the American Red Cross has set up a shelter at the City of Miner Convention Center, 2610 E. Malone Ave., Sikeston, MO 63801.

Scott County officials promised to work tirelessly to support the community’s recovery efforts in the days, weeks and months ahead.

The county encouraged residents to report any missing persons to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at (573) 471-3530.
