2 men facing charges after Carbondale police receive tip of suspicious men outside home

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Two men face charges after Carbondale police reponded to a call of two suspicious people outside a home.

Police officers responded to the 700 block of West College Street on October 6 at 3:33 p.m. after a report of two suspicious men outside a home. One of the men was reportedly armed with a handgun, according to poilce.

Officers found two men matching the descriptions of the suspects and detained them.

J. Lollar Vernell, 18, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he was found to be in possession of a handgun. He also faces charges of home invasion after police say he unlawfully entered a home and threatened the resident with the firearm.

Tyrez J.T. Gails, 18, of Carbondale was arrested for a valid Jackson County failure to appear warrant on a prior arrest for resisting a peace officer.

After consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Lollar and Gails were taken to the Jackson County Jail.

No one was injured.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
