LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Two steers remain unaccounted for after a crash on U.S. 62 at the east end of the Tennessee River Bridge below Kentucky Dam after a livestock truck crash Tuesday afternoon.

After a careful accounting of 55 cows that were on board a semi truck that crashed along U.S. 62 at the Livingston County end of the Tennessee River Bridge on Tuesday afternoon, investigators found that two steers remain unaccounted for and are likely wandering about in the Lake City and Grand Rivers area, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Wranglers and emergency management personnel tracked the cows from the crash site eastward along the P&L Railroad line before losing the trail in a rocky area. This section of the rail line runs in a deep excavation, creating limited opportunities for the animals to move away from the train tracks.

Officials speculate that if they continue eastward along the tracks they could end up in the Depot Road area near the west end of Barkley Dam, according to KYTC.

The steers could turn up about anywhere in Livingston County south of Interstate 24, but officials think they are most likely south of U.S. 62.

Drivers who travel roadways in the area and local residents are asked to be on alert for the steers and to call Livingston County 911 with specific location information if they spot the missing animals.

The crash site was cleared and the roadway reopened at about 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 27.
