3 arrested, 2 face charges in connection with graduation shooting, after traffic stop in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Three men face charges after a traffic stop on Monday in Cape Girardeau.
Two face charges in connection with the shooting that happened at the Show Me Center during the Cape Central graduation ceremony on Sunday.
Cape Girardeau police conducted a felony traffic stop on a vehicle in the 900 block of North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau on Monday, May 20 around 4 p.m.
Police say four people were in the vehicle. Police identify those as Kris E. Owens, Christopher J. Owens, Andra D. Jennings, Jr. and an uncharged fourth person.
Kris E. Owens was arrested on an active warrant related to the May 19 shooting at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau. The warrant for Owens charged him with assault in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. That no bond warrant had previously been issued by Judge Frank Miller on May 20.
Christopher J. Owens was arrested for an active warrant related to the shooting. The warrant for Christopher Owens was issued for the charge of sex offender present within five hundred feet of a school-related activity. At the time of his arrest at the felony traffic stop, police say Christopher Owens had a fully loaded 9mm gun magazine on him In addition, police say Christopher Owens admitted to possessing a 9mm handgun recovered from the vehicle. The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office charged Christopher Owens on May 22 with the felony offense of unlawful possession of a firearm. Judge Frank Miller issued a no bond warrant for the weapons offense.
Andra D. Jennings, Jr., 34, of Louisville, Kentucky was also arrested at the scene of the traffic stop because police say he was in possession of a black Taurus 709 Slim 9mm firearm. Jennings is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. In 2016, Jennings was convicted in the Circuit Court of Shelby County, Tennessee of the felony of aggravated robbery. On May 21, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Jennings with the felony offense of unlawful possession of a firearm. Judge Frank Miller issued the $25,000, cash only, bond warrant.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad has formally disbanded.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department continues to investigate the events that happened at the Show Me Center on May 19.
