3 face charges after sheriff’s deputies say they tried to scrap stolen items

ESSEX, Mo. (KBSI) – Three people face charges after they are accused of trying to scrap stolen items.

Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reports on Wednesday, January 24 the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to stealing on State Highway 153 near Essex. Deputy Travis Maddox found a white pickup truck and trailer loaded with scrap metal. Deputy Maddox located two men and one woman.

Jessie Hernandez, 45, of Sikeston faces charges of stealing Class A misdemeanor and trespass 1st Class B misdemeanor. His bond was set at $5000 cash or surety.

Donya L. Smith, 37, of St. Louis faces aScott County warrant for domestic Assault 2nd $15,000 cash or surety, probatioin/parole warrant, possession of controlled substance Class D felony, resisting/interfering with arrest Class A misdemeanor, stealing Class A misdemeanor, trespass 1st Class B misdemeanor, making false report Class B misdemeanor and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Class D misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Angela Smith, 45, of Sikeston faces charges of stealing Class A misdemeanor and trespass 1st Class B misdemeanor.

Sheriff’s deputies determined the scrap metal items on the truck and trailer had been stolen from the property.

All three were arrested and taken to the Stoddard County Jail.
