4 additional arrests after 2 arrested after 2 show up to Carbondale hospital with gunshot wounds

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Four additional people were arrested and face charges after Carbondale police investigated a shooting that happened June 18.

On June 18, at 3:19 a.m., City of Carbondale police officers investigated a shooting that occurred in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of East Main Street.

Carbondale police responded to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale on Sunday, June 18 at 3:19 a.m. after two people arrived with non life threatening gunshot wounds.

There were multiple bullet holes in the vehicle the men arrived in, according to police.

Dejuon D. Baltimore, 23, of Champaign, was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm.

The other person was treated by medical staff and released without charges.

Levar D. Woods, 25, of Carbondale was arrested on June 21 for charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Both men were taken the Jackson County Jail.

Police say the men at the hospital were involved in a shooting with a person or multiple people in a second vehicle in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of East Main Street resulting in the injuries.

Officers recovered a firearm and spent shell casings from inside the vehicle the injured men drove to the hospital.

One of the injured men, Baltimore, was taken to the Jackson County Jail after he was medically treated.

The other person was treated by medical staff and released without charges.

Officers identified the other vehicle suspected in the shooting. Officers found the vehicle travelling on South Wall Street and stopped it on June 18 at 1:58 p.m.

Levar D. Woods, 25 of Carbondale, was in the Jeep. Police say he was uninjured but had two firearms. Woods was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Detectives continued to investigate related weapons offenses relating to this case. With the help of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, the following arrests have been made:

On July 7, Immanuel Salley, 21, of Carbondale, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail. On July 11, Salley was additionally charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm.

On July 11, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jahmai Salley, 24, of Carbondale for aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

On July 11, Carbondale police officers arrested Shalisha Massie, 40, of Carbondale, on a Jackson County failure to appear warrant for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Massie posted the required bail and was released pending court.

On July 14, Fairleigh Ward, 21 of Carbondale, was on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm.  Ward taken to the Jackson County Jail.

So far in the investigation, a total of eight illegally possessed firearms have been seized including one rifle.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
