45 SEMO athletes record OVC Medals of Honor

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University athletes earned a school record 45 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of honor for the 2023-24 academic year.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in a conference-sponsored sport.

Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2023-24 academic year recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

This is the second year in a row where SEMO collected more than 40 OVC Medals of Honor. In 2022-23, the Redhawks had 43 which was the previous record before their highest mark in 2023-24. SEMO last led the OVC in Academic Medals of Honor during the 2018-19 campaign (37).

Eastern Illinois had 41, Lindenwood had 38 and Tennessee Tech had 35 medals of honor.

Women’s soccer had the most honorees league-wide with 61. Women’s track & field had 43 and softball added 30.

In all, 310 student-athletes won the OVC Medal of Honor.

There have been 1,500 student-athletes earn the distinction over the past five years.

The OVC will announce the recipients of the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Academic Achievement Award and the Team Academic Achievement Awards next week.
