48th Annual Fort Massac Encampment

METROPOLIS, Ill (KBSI) – This weekend was a blast from the past with 1800 histories everywhere with war and band re-enactments. 

It gives business owners like Darrell Sheldon a chance to show off the work he creates and gives the community a history lesson as well.   

“We’re a business, we recreate a product that was available for trade back then in the 18th century So what I do is educate about the history and the craft of computer cast,” said Sheldon. 

The Fort Massac Encampment event brings many to out every year and the importance is felt.  

Director of Tourism for the Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Trish Steckenrider says during this time foot track really helps the community.  

“But it also plays a huge role with our nonprofits here in the metropolis area because most of our food vendors and some of our parking all goes towards organizations within our community,” said Steckenrider.
