5th annual Southern Illinois Back-to-School Expo

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – It’s that time of year again when parents and their kids try to squeeze in a few more fun summer activities while also stocking up on school supplies.  

 Today was the 5th annual Southern Illinois Back-to-School Expo in Marion, Illinois.  

It was a chance for families and children to come to get the things they need before the new school year, ranging from backpacks to haircuts. 

Co-chair of the Franklin Williamson Positive Youth Development Action Team Brittney Hale says there were all types of free items, 

 “Free so we have everything from free backpacks and free school supplies to medical care so you can come and get free immunizations you can come and get free school physicals,” said Hale. 

 Hale says she wants families to feel that they can come grab their last-minute or extra school supplies, while also joining in on some entertainment and fun.  

“This is also for fun we’ve got mini golf and laser tag and snow cones and food trucks and water slides so come on out,” said Hale. 

Hale says this event was a joint effort between a multiple disciplinary teams of social services who wanted to provide support for the community. 

 “We want to come together and play nicely in the sandbox and support Southern Illinois so we’re here for you so come out and let us give you the support that you need to thrive and succeed as a family,” said Hale.
