9 Southern Illinois fire departments receive over $2M in grants

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., (KBSI) — Nine southern Illinois fire departments have received over $2 million in grant funding for equipment and rehabilitation upgrades.

The funding is part of the inaugural Fire Station Construction and Rehabilitation Program, which awarded $5 million to 16 grantees statewide, according to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

The local departments receiving grants include:

— Tamms Fire Department, $71,011
— Equality Fire Department, $300,000
— Shawneetown Fire Department, $350,000
— McLeansboro Fire Department, $350,000
— Village of Gorham Volunteer Fire Department, $350,000
— Buncombe Fire Department, $350,000
— Vienna Fire Department, $350,000
— Carrier Mills Fire Department, $350,000
— Ware-Wolf Lake Fire Protection District, $349,789

The grants were awarded through a competitive process.
