Cape Girardeau City Council hears proposal for redevelopment of West Park Mall
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – River City Centre LLC presented a proposal for mall redevelopment to Cape Girardeau City Council Monday Evening.
On September 18, at 5 p.m., developers presented the idea with the possibility of tax incentives.
At the meeting, the group pitched their tax increment financing redevelopment plan, as well as a cost benefit analysis, in hopes to get their proposal approved.
“There would be so many more job opportunities and I know many friends that have struggled finding some and this would be a great way to open that up. Especially for college students,” said Alayna Sparr, who is a student at Southeast Missouri State University.
Bell City resident Joyce Cato is also optimistic about the idea and believes it could boost the city’s economy.
“It’s just good for the whole town and for all the people in the area. It’ll bring more people from out of town,” said Cato.
“The regional mall is a priority of redevelopment in 2024,” said Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder during the city council meeting.
The developers say tax incentives would permit them to regaining 18% of the $107 million project.
