Cape Girardeau Public Schools to use new app for 2024-25 school year
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A new app connects parents, students and teachers in Cape Girardeau Public Schools for the 2024-25 school year.
It is called Rooms.
Cape Girardeau Public Schools Communications Director Kristin Tallent says they used to use several different apps, but Rooms makes communication much more efficient.
“This system specifically is to kind of empower our teachers to be able to have more convenient conversations with our family members,” said Tallent.
She says another great thing with this app is it translates different languages for parents and staff who maybe don’t speak the same language.
“If you’re typing in English, it’s automatically translating to you in Spanish,” she said. “When you’re typing back, it’s coming back to me in English. So it really removes barriers to success for our families and we are really excited about that.”
The app is just one of the things that Cape Central teachers and staff are excited about. Kaitlin Contrears is the sixth-grade English teacher and softball coach for Cape Central. She says that it’s busy playing both roles but she’s excited about these new updates to make the school year for her a little bit easier.
“We are not carrying backpacks to and from class. We are just keeping them in one place, so our kids are just taking a little bit of a load off of them,” said Contrears. “I know it’s not a big change but it’s kind of small things, but they make big changes in our building.”
Contrears says the first day was a great start and she has high hopes for the rest of the year.
“Teaching and coaching are always really busy things but staying in that routine and getting our players and athletes and students right back on the roll has been a great feeling,” she said.
