New fire chief selected for the City of Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI)- The City of Carbondale has announced that Rob Miller has been selected as the new Fire Chief.
Chief Miller has worked for the City of Carbondale for the past 25 years.
He began his public safety career as a police officer for the Village of Desoto where he served three years before transitioning to the Carbondale Fire Department in 1998.
In 2006 he became an Arson Investigator and has continued to investigate fires for the past 18 years.
Prior to his promotion to Captain in 2018, Chief Miller was the President of firefighter’s union Local 1961.
Chief Miller was promoted again in 2018 to Assistant Fire Chief where he has managed 24-hour operations for one of the three shifts within the Carbondale Fire Department.
Chief Miller has completed numerous certifications in his career to include certified law enforcement, fire apparatus engineer, juvenile officer, emergency medical responder, and fireground command officer school, among others.
Chief Miller will begin his new role on April 15 following the retirement of the current Fire Chief.
His new duties include managing personnel for two fire stations, emergency operations, various rescue equipment and fire apparatus, and a rigorous training schedule.
He will also lead the development of a $4 million annual budget.
