AAA: Missouri gas prices continue to fall as demand drops, and winter fuel arrives

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri drivers are seeing continued relief at the pump as gasoline demand drops and the state transitions to winter-blend fuel, according to AAA Missouri’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $2.76, five cents lower than last week and seven cents less than a year ago. Among major metropolitan areas surveyed, Jefferson City drivers are paying the highest average at $2.91 per gallon, while Joplin motorists are paying the least at $2.58.

Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded sits at $3.11 per gallon — also down five cents from last week and seven cents from this time last year, according to AAA Gas Prices.

The Energy Information Administration reports that gasoline demand has fallen to a four-month low, helping drive prices downward. With higher inventories and the seasonal switch from summer- to winter-grade fuel, consumers could see additional price declines in the weeks ahead.

“Drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump as gasoline demand falls to its lowest level in months,” said Nick Chabarria, AAA spokesperson. “With the switch to more affordable winter-blend fuel and higher gasoline inventories, pump prices are likely to keep trending lower in the coming weeks — good news for Missourians hitting the road this fall.”
