AAA: Missouri gas prices dip as October comes to a close

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Missouri is $2.69, according to the latest AAA Missouri Weekend Gas Watch report. That price is two cents lower than a week ago and nine cents lower than this time last year.

Among major metropolitan areas surveyed, drivers in Jefferson City are paying the most on average at $2.83 per gallon, while motorists in Joplin are paying the least at $2.58 per gallon. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.04—three cents less than last week and nine cents less than a year ago, according to AAA Gas Prices.

As October ends, Missouri drivers are paying about 12 cents less per gallon than at the beginning of the month. AAA attributes the decline to lower crude oil costs and reduced demand, trends that could continue into November and keep prices down through the Thanksgiving travel period.

“Gas prices often remain steady or dip during the fall, and this year is no exception,” said Nick Chabarria, AAA spokesperson. “With crude oil prices holding relatively low and demand easing, drivers may continue to see some relief at the pump heading into the upcoming busy holiday travel period.”

Prices were current as of 3:41 a.m. Thursday. Motorists can find updated fuel prices and plan routes using the free AAA Mobile App, available for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app also offers information on traffic conditions, parking, hotel bookings and roadside assistance.

For vehicle maintenance needs, AAA’s Approved Auto Repair program connects drivers with certified facilities that meet high standards for training, equipment and customer service.
