Adams Shoes to celebrate 100 years in business with open house

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — Adams Shoes will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an open house Friday, Aug. 28, at its store in Marion.
The celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 410 N. Market St. The Marion Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ceremonial anniversary ribbon-cutting at noon.
The event will include refreshments, stories about the Adams family and drawings for door prizes. The public is invited to attend.
Brothers Lloyd and Charles Adams founded Adams Shoes in 1926. By the late 1920s, the four Adams brothers operated several businesses, including the shoe store, Adams Cab Co. and Adams Barber Shop.
The shoe store continued to grow and became known for footwear sales and repair services. Family member Charlie Adams later began selling boots, which helped shape the store’s future.
Charlie’s son, Vince Adams, managed the business until his death in 1990. His daughters operated the store until 2017, when Theresa Adams Boyt became the third-generation owner.
The store carries more than 40 brands, including Red Wing and Timberland Pro, and sells products ranging from work and western boots to apparel and accessories. The company said it plans to continue serving the community for another century.
