After Nearly 10 years Missouri Resident Kirk Klingler Reconnects With His Lost Treasures

BENTON Mo. (KBSI) – After nearly ten years, Kirk Klinglers missing treasure was discovered and returned by a local family, Shawn and Gina Elfrink.

Kirk Klingler was enjoying his regular float trip like he had several times before in October of 2014 when Kirk and his friend became stuck behind a fallen tree, here’s what he said happened next.

“There was a tree laying 90 percent across the river, And we couldn’t get to the other side so we go swept beneath the tree and my friend got stuck and i though he was going to drown, and the box was tethered and then it broke and I saw my ammo box floating away and the current was up so it was I save my friend or go after my ammo box, and the ammo box lost.”

Klingler and his wife waited patiently for a call, jumping every time they received a phone call from an unknown number but had given up hope that someone would find their lost ammo box. Inside the box contained almost 700 dollars, his wallet, his first hand gun after becoming a veteran, and many other personal items.

However, after nearly ten years Shawn and Gina Elfrink made Kirks wish come true.

Shawn and Gina Elfrink told Fox 23 that they discovered the trail on their phone and without prior knowledge of the trail decided to walk it. While walking, the Elfrinks discovered something sticking up out of the mud and Shawn eventually decided to see what it was, unknowingly fulfilling the long awaited wish of Kirk and his family by finding the ammo box containing so many personal items including the first money clip Kirk received from is wife engraved just for him.

Now that the two families have been connected by a lost ammo box, they hope to build a lasting friendship as they will go on a joint float trip on the ten year anniversary since losing his prized ammo box. When Shawn Elfrink told us he will likely have an ammo box of his own.
