All-way stop coming to Jackson Street, South 19th and Guthrie Avenue

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The City of Paducah will convert the intersection of Jackson Street, South 19th Street and Guthrie Avenue into an all-way stop beginning Jan. 26 as part of an effort to improve traffic safety.

City officials said new stop signs have already been installed and are currently covered. The covers will be removed Monday, at which point the intersection will officially operate as an all-way stop.

Under the current configuration, only traffic on Jackson Street is required to stop, while vehicles traveling on South 19th Street and Guthrie Avenue move through the intersection without stopping.

The city’s engineering department initiated the change following recent street rehabilitation projects that added new sidewalks throughout the neighborhood near Paducah Tilghman High School. Officials said the improvements have increased pedestrian activity in the area, prompting the need for additional safety measures.

City officials said the all-way stop is expected to better regulate traffic flow, reduce conflicts and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

The City of Paducah maintains more than 220 miles of streets.
