MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Amazon announced Monday it will invest $10 billion to build a new data center campus in Montgomery County.
The company said the project will create more than 400 full-time jobs and thousands of construction jobs while generating new economic activity in the region.
Gov. Mike Kehoe called the project a major investment in Missouri’s future.
“Projects like this create lasting benefits for local communities by supporting critical infrastructure improvements, generating new tax revenue for schools and public services, and strengthening the foundation for future economic growth,” Kehoe said.
Montgomery County officials estimate the project will generate hundreds of millions of dollars in new property tax revenue over the next 25 years.
Amazon also announced more than $7 million in community investments, including $3 million for emergency dispatch services, more than $1 million for a new gathering space at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds and an additional $3 million for community programs. The company is also launching a $150,000 community grant fund.
Amazon said it will cover all costs associated with connecting the campus to the electric grid and will not receive discounted electric rates.
The company is also partnering with Arable Labs on water conservation efforts expected to reduce water use by an estimated 100 million gallons through improved irrigation efficiency.
Amazon currently employs more than 10,000 people across Missouri through its fulfillment centers, delivery stations and other operations.
