Ameren Missouri donates 50 air conditioners to East Missouri Action Agency
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Nicolle Hahn with East Missouri Action Agency said Ameren Missouri’s donation of 50 air conditioners, which will be available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis to those who qualify beginning July 5, is just another way the partnership aims to change the lives of those in need.
“In community action, we talk a lot about helping people, changing lives, and we get to do that every day,” she said. “That’s a humbling experience, and it’s also rewarding to just be able to help people in our very own community hands-on with something as tangible as this.”
Individuals and families must show proof of income and meet a threshold to receive an air conditioner, and they also must be an Ameren customer.
Connie Sanchez, customer advocacy associate with Ameren Missouri, said, “You’re allowing them to finally take a breath because they have been holding it for so long and they’ve been scared, and you get to be that hand to kind of guide them through to the other side.”
Hahn said it takes a cohesive team to make something like this happen.
“It takes a group of people, organizations, businesses, individuals sometimes, volunteers, whoever that might be, when you’re working in this field to make the work happen and to be there for people,” she said.
Ameren Missouri and East Missouri Action Agency have used that teamwork to make a difference.
“It’s just amazing that we get to do this every day,” Sanchez said.
