Ameren Missouri reminds customers of energy assistance programs, May 31 deadline

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Ameren Missouri is reminding customers that energy assistance programs remain available, with a key application deadline approaching at the end of the month.
Officials said applications for Missouri’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, including the Energy Assistance and Winter Energy Crisis Intervention Program, are due May 31 through the Missouri Department of Social Services.
Ameren Missouri said it partners with local agencies, including East Missouri Action Agency, to help customers apply for assistance.
The Energy Assistance program provides a one-time payment toward heating or cooling bills, while the crisis program offers help to customers facing disconnection. A disconnection notice is required for the crisis program but not for standard assistance.
Company officials said additional Ameren Missouri programs are available year-round, including bill credits during summer months, payment assistance for past-due balances and programs for veterans and customers with medical needs.
Officials encourage customers to apply even if their bills are not past due and to contact local agencies for help navigating available resources.
