Ameren MO drops natural gas rates

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Ameren Missouri is dropping their rates down to $.60, which means this could help families during the winter.

Pam Harrison with Ameren Missouri explains how families are going to see those heating rates go down this year.

“So, what we pay for gas is what the customer pays, and every so often we go in and we file an adjustment, so we estimate how much gas, how much we’re paying for gas, we collect at that rate and then we go and file an adjustment, and it basically balances out.”

Changes like this are what help to keep the heat on in homes that may not be able to afford to keep warm on some of those colder days.
Denise Wimp is with first call for help in Cape Girardeau and she says that with colder weather already here, utility bills are something people are already talking about.
“We do anticipate having more needs sooner.” Wimp says that there are several programs in the area that will help families stay warm this winter, along with discussions about overnight shelters for the homeless.

She says, “We want our families to be safe and comfortable at home, we want kids to be in an environment where they’re comfortable they have to learn, they have homework to do, they are still growing and need to be warm in their home, so heat is important for that for families.”
