American Red Cross continues assistance to Sikeston tornado victims

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The American Red Cross has closed its shelter in Sikeston, Missouri, due to a lack of residents, but will continue to provide assistance to those affected by the May 16 tornadoes.

In collaboration with community leaders, the Red Cross determined that those impacted by the storms have secured alternative housing arrangements.

On Wednesday, the Red Cross participated in a Multi-Agency Resource Center in Sikeston, providing information and resources to over 90 individuals.

Beginning May 30, the Red Cross will offer financial assistance to qualifying individuals whose homes were severely damaged or destroyed. To qualify, individuals must have suffered major damage or destruction of their home, as classified by the Red Cross.

Those seeking assistance can visit (link unavailable) to review eligibility criteria and submit an online application. Eligible individuals will receive personalized instructions on accessing financial assistance via text, email or phone call.
