American Red Cross opens shelter in Perryville for storm-affected residents

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) — The American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Perryville for residents affected by power outages from the weekend’s winter storm.

The shelter, located at the Perry County Senior Citizen Center, 4 N. Spring St., is available for anyone needing a warm place to stay amid continuing cold temperatures and expected additional snow on Friday.

The Perry County Emergency Management Agency initially operated the shelter, which opened Monday night, before the Red Cross assumed operations earlier Tuesday.

The Red Cross is coordinating with local officials to determine where additional assistance is needed.

Identification and proof of residency are not required for admission to the shelter. Individuals and families are encouraged to bring clothing, bedding, toiletries, essential medication and comfort items.

Red Cross services are free and available to all, regardless of race, religion, nationality or citizenship status.
