American Red Cross provides disaster relief after Sikeston tornado

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The American Red Cross is providing disaster recovery assistance to the Sikeston community following a tornado on May 16.

Nearly 170 disaster responders from 32 states, including local Missouri and Arkansas responders, are supporting the disaster response.

Red Cross teams are conducting damage assessments and providing mobile feeding in impacted areas. Emergency supplies, such as clean-up kits, rakes, shovels and totes, are available at the Old Bethel Baptist Church.

The Red Cross is coordinating with community partners and local and state government to determine needs. Shelters will be opened as needed, and additional distribution of meals and supplies will be provided.

The Red Cross encourages financial donations to support disaster relief efforts. Donations can be made by calling 1-800 RED CROSS or visiting American Red Cross | Help Those Affected by Disasters. Volunteers are also needed to respond to disasters and support other aspects of the Red Cross mission.
