American Red Cross responds to deadly tornadoes, storms across multiple states
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The American Red Cross is providing support and comfort to people affected by Friday’s deadly tornadoes and storms across multiple states.
Red Cross disaster teams are working around the clock with partners to ensure everyone has access to safe shelter, meals, emotional support and comfort. Shelters are open in Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
The organization has mobilized relief supplies and additional disaster workers and is collaborating with local and state officials to provide assistance.
Red Cross volunteers will help assess residential damage in affected communities once it is safe to do so. This effort will help determine what support families may need in the coming days and weeks.
The storms caused widespread destruction, leaving hundreds of thousands without power. The National Weather Service predicts severe weather will continue in the region for the next several days.
Those in need of shelter can find open locations on Disaster Shelters | Find Shelters | American Red Cross, the Red Cross Emergency app or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
